I sleep with a pen to write down my dream
C Bb
Cos I’m scared I might run out
But I can’t write when I’m asleep
And when I wake I forget what it’s about
So I went to a doctor and asked him to help
He said “Son, I’ll do what I can
But be sure, I can’t do a thing if you won’t help yourself.
There’s no such thing as a miracle cure.

And I’ve seen
what you could be,
But potential is never far from tragedy.”
I’d read all my diaries from when I was young
But I burnt them to the ground.
I thought if I knew just where I’d come from
I’d know where I’m supposed to go now.
So I went to a mystic with a crystal ball
And asked her to tell me me past.
She said that she couldn’t, that wasn’t her call
She could just tell me which story lines last.
And she’d seen what I could be
But potential is never far from tragedy.

I’ve seen what I could be.
But potential is never far from tragedy.
