The party was ending, but we were just beginning
Sitting in the kitchen with guitars on our laps
We were everything indie music stars dream of being
We were young poetry with no though to spare
For onlookers, no hooks to remember us by
But the night sky, we had the night sky
The stars hid behind the street lights
To prove how far away they were
And we did all kinds of stupid things
To prove how close we were
It doesn’t matter if the lights go out
It doesn’t matter, we’re just signing and shouting
It doesn’t matter if the words run out
Because we all know what we’re singing about
Our time was ending but we knew our lives we just beginning
Sitting in the kitchen as the light crept in
We could have sat there for as long as we had known each other
To tell every story and sing every song that we knew
But heavy eyes were drooping on all the time we spent together
Now forever, we had forever
The stars hid behind the sunshine
But we knew they’d always be there
And we’d done all kinds of stupid things
But we were still there
It doesn’t matter if the lights go out
It doesn’t matter, we’re just signing and shouting
It doesn’t matter if the words run out
Because we don’t know what we’re singing about
